Nothing beats a good film with a beer in hand. But what happens when life imitates art – when you find yourself glued to a great movie about drinking the stuff?
We take a look at some classic beer movies and pick out our top five films to enjoy with a pint by your side.
Strange Brew (1983)
This film is a comedy masterpiece and one of our favourites at Skinner’s. In a quest for free beer two brothers uncover an evil mind-control plot at a brewery. The heroes manage to drink plenty of their favourite beverage while trying to stop the scheme. It’s a cult classic which will appeal to anyone with a fondness for beer. And we happen to think it’s Canada’s finest export alongside maple syrup!
Public Enemy (1931)
The oldest film on this list tells the story of a young man’s rise in the criminal underworld in prohibition-era urban America. The original is a black and white gangster film that’s still held up as an all-time classic! But if you don’t fancy a throwback film then there’s a remake with a modern twist featuring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale.
Drinking Buddies (2013)
A rom-com about the romantic happenings in a Chicago Microbrewery starring Jake Johnson. The movie shows us what happens when you start an in-depth chat about your relationship after a few. It’s smart, funny and one to watch with your significant other on a romantic night in.
The Hangover (2009)
Three guys on a stag do wake up in a Las Vegas hotel suite with no memory of the night before. The friends try to retrace their steps to find a missing pal with hilarious consequences. This off-the-wall movie provides some serious belly laughs but isn’t a movie for those of sensitive nature! It’s no surprise it won a Golden Globe and was the tenth highest grossing movie in 2009.
Beer Wars (2009)
If you’re looking for a watch that’s a little more challenging for the grey matter then give Beer Wars a shot. It’s a David and Goliath documentary about the US beer industry. It will tell you the truth about what you drink and the stories behind the famous beer brands. And it will have you on your edge of your seat cheering for the smaller independent breweries like us!
So that’s our round up of the best films to watch with a pint in hand. And if you’re ready to enjoy a cosy night in, then don’t forget to order one of our beer cases. The perfect movie partner.
